Andy died in June 2007 during a training exercise near Catterick Garrision, North Yorkshire.
He began his army training in January 2007 and was due to join the
2nd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment.
Andy was a great lad who grew into a fine young man, a cheeky chap with a cheeky smile who loved having a laugh. He made friends easily and always had plenty to say.
He spent a lot of his time with his mates at the Hunters bar playing pool and at the Castlegate.
Andy was a bit of a chocoholic, even when I hid the chocolate bars he always managed to find them, he was like a sniffer dog.
He was a typical lad who enjoyed kicking a football around with his mates. At one point he played for Grantham Town Juniors and received a trophy for the most magical moment which was for scoring the best goal of the season. He was a keen Chelsea supporter and took plenty of stick off his mates because of this, but he had an ali in his uncle who was also a Chelsea supporter and often joined him to watch a match on sky at the pub.
Andy enjoyed going fishing when he was younger and I can always remember one time he brought home a fish he had caught with his friend Darren, convinced they were going to chop its head off and cook it, but when it came to it neither of them were brave enough to do it and the fish never did get cooked.
Andy has two sisters, Kim who is 21 and Gemma who is 12. Because there was only 15 months between Kim and Andy they grew up being very close doing things together, but as they got older they had their own interests and group of friends, but still thought a lot of each other. Gemma used to love Andy playing football with her and he was very protective of his little sister.
Andy didn't particularly like going to school, but once he left and joined the army he became more mature and focused on what he wanted to do in life.
The day Andy said he was going in the army made us all so very proud. It was his dream of joining the army that took him from us before it could be fully achieved.
His life may have been very short but he has left a wealth of memories for his family and friends.
Andys death has left a big gap in all of our lives.
Forever in our thoughts.
Love always, Mum and your sisters Kim and Gemma xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PLEASE LIGHT A CANDLE FOR ANDY
Mom, Please Listen
Mom, please listen to me
as I take the time to write.
I see parents struggling daily,
Their pain is such a fight...
All of us who've gone
And left the rest of you behind...
We're ok, Mom, I promise ...
Heaven is beautiful and God is kind.
You used to tell me that one day
God would call and take you home.
You told me you'd make me strong
So I would stand tall when alone.
But things happen, Mom
That does not go in our plans,
I wasn't scared, Mom,
When God held out his hand.
I didn't want to leave you,
I didn't have time to say good-bye
When the angels said, "Come with us"
There wasn't time to question why.
I've watched you daily, Mom.
It hurts to see you cry.
I don't want you to be unhappy,
Just because we didn't get to say good-bye.
Tell others what I'm telling you,
So many parents need to know
That Earth was just a layover
We had another place to go.
I know you miss me, Mom
I know your heart was broken in two.
But God really neededme
Because my earthly life was through.
I''m always alongside you...
I smile and touch your hair.
I whisper "Mom, I love you"
You just can't see me there.
I'm the one that gently touches you
On your shoulder when you're sad.
I'm happy now that you finally found
God again, and are no longer mad.
Tell the parents, Mom, for me
That all of us kids are okay.
God had plans for our lives
When he called us home that day.
I love you, Mom, I always will
And remember I'm not far away.
We're going to be together
When God calls out your name.
LOVE ALWAYS ALISON XXXXXX
Andy, a special person with a special smile.
If we could have a lifetime wish, a dream that would come true, we'd pray to God with all our hearts for yesterday and you.
A thousand words can't bring you back we know because we've tried. Neither will a thousand tears we know because we've cried.
You left behind our broken hearts and happy memories too, but we never wanted memories, we only want YOU.
Missing you, love always, Mum, Kim & Gemma xxxxxxxxx
